Trains

Trains are one of the most enduring forms of transportations. From the discovery of steam power to the contemporary century, railway—whether over or underground—has opened up our world.

Despite their convenience, trains are no longer as ubiquitous as they once were. Buses, trams, and cars all vie for humanity’s favor.

The troublesome form of transport is the latter: cars. While buses and trams can easily co-exist with trains by covering shorter distances, cars are often inadvisably cast as the lead of every journey.

Cars are fine. However, when and where they are used should be carefully and meaningfully decided.

I believe that cars should be used for short 10-15 minute journeys, carrying items, or transporting a party of five or more.

There’s the phrase “it’s just a drive away” that doesn’t apply in many automobile-dominated environments.

Many places do not have regular public transport service, so it is understandable that the extra emissions that come with car use can outweigh a 1-2 hour wait.

It is also quite the ordeal to transport groceries or furniture in a vehicle that expects you to depart as quickly as possible. Cars are able to remedy this impossibility by providing ample trunk space.

You can understand this next point by thinking of passengers as furniture. In the rush to depart, it can be frighteningly plausible for you to become separated from some, if not all, of your party.

Whenever these situations do not apply, I find it best, both for the environment and yourself, to take some form of public transport, but why trains in particular?

Trains are free from having to share the road on account of their dedicated railways. Instead of having to stop at intersections or for a jaywalking pedestrian, trains can simply contribute along their route with minimal stopping whatsoever.

Another benefit that results from this removedness is the amazing window view. With the exception of metros, trains are often situated in the scenic countryside.

What metros lack in scenery, they make for in economic gain. Underground rail networks make the perfect place for local businesses to expose themselves to the general public.

In short, trains are one of the most practical and beneficial modes of transport. It’s time to invest in them.
