The Real American Pandemic: Stubborness
Like many, I spend the majority of my time ensconced in my own home. I feel that it is important to heed the warnings of the world's health professionals by sheltering in my place of residence for the foreseeable future.
Today, I took a rare excursion to a local park (one that, for some reason, has remained open). What I saw was incredibly disappointing. A park that usually only sees the occasional dog-walker or jogger was teeming with all manners maskless people.
Sadly, I wasn't that surprised. Everyone from your questionable uncle to Elon Musk has been protesting the government's recent anti-coronavirus measures.
Once again, the US is the black sheep of the developed world, being entirely opposed to something that is almost inarguably beneficial.
We are against universal healthcare, against using the metric system, against moving towards a greener future. There is something inherently flawed with American society that makes us so unmoving to change.
This pandemic will literally kill people, but, if we do not change, we could also let it snuff out any hope of American progress.
